Messages and Mediums: Learning to Teach with Videogames

I read this chapter by David Thomas from Beyond Fun: Serious Games and Media.

This chapter brought up the concerns of violence in video games. However, he considered a different angle for the argument then I had heard before. If we can learn violence from video games, then we can learn other stuff from video games, in both an educational context and concepts other then violence from games like Grand Theft Auto, like driving around crazily will get you killed. The author also considered the other side of the argument using the same line of thought: if we don’t learn violence from video games, then what is there to say we learn educational concepts from games? I thought this was a really intriguing question when thinking about games for education.
